The drawings on this page are done
using a technique called
"wax resist".

Wax, ink and paper or cardboard are
applied and removed creating layers
of pigment.  I first learned this this
technique in elementary school and
was reintroduced to it later in high
school.  My Art teacher Fred DeGroot
used it as a main part of his cur-
riculum along with portraiture and
line drawing.  It combines qualities
of intaglio, painting, batique, and
raku pottery.

Biographical Info:

I have always thought of myself as an
artist.

I grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
and spent a short time in first grade
in Toulouse France.  I am the oldest of
nine children.  In high school I received
extensive training in drawing and graphic
arts leading to a portfolio based scholar-
ship to the Pennsylvania Governor’s
School for the Arts.

Upon graduation from high school I attended University of Colorado at Boulder and took fine art
classes.  I took leave of abscences from college several winters to study “arabesque” in the ski
industry.  I received a Bachelors degree in Liberal Arts from the Evergreen State College, strong
in a variety of visual arts media including video, sculpture, print-making and film animation.

Since then I have been working as a bricoleur and stay at home dad of two children while at the
same time developing my portfolio and several bodies of work.

Vision #1Vision #1

This is the first of six panels developed as
an installation in the "Voyuer" cafe in
Olympia, WA.  The panels which are all tall
and narrow (approximately 60"x 26") depict
several visions I had as a response to the
project and installation space.
